The Most Powerful Man in the Universe, Supersized
Mattel built the Masters of the Universe 200X line around 6-inch figures. Only twice did they go bigger — and this is one of those two. The Masters of the Universe vs. The Snakemen giant-scale assortment consisted of exactly two figures: this Snake Armor He-Man and his opposite number, Skeletor. That is the entire large-format lineup for the modern series.
At 11.5 inches, He-Man is transformed. The Four Horsemen sculpt that redefined the character in 2002 — the anatomy, the harness, the set of the jaw — carries detail at this scale that the standard figure simply cannot hold. Clad in the serpent-motif armor he wore against King Hiss and the Snakemen, this He-Man was built to be the anchor of a display, not one more figure in the row.
Produced in 2003 in limited quantities and never reissued, the giant Snake Armor He-Man is one of the harder 200X pieces to find sealed. Sealed examples currently ask north of $200 on the collector market.
Collectors note: the matching 11.5" Skeletor completes the pair. Together they are the only two large-scale figures Mattel ever released for the 200X line.
