The Future of Deadpool And What to Expect In Deadpool 3

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to know that one of the most glorious cinematic success stories of 2016 was the triumphant arrival of Deadpool. Having been given its green-light by 20th Century Fox based on fan responses to test footage, the motion picture ran a phenomenal campaign and turned into a giant, R-rated hit – on account of a moderately low budget of $58 million, and a monstrous $783 million international box office haul. Also, that was without the lucrative marketplace of China, in which it was banned. Even before you could accept the film’s success, you could see markets filled with Funko pop vinyl figures of Deadpool in various forms.

The merger

Given its remarkable success, it couldn’t be difficult to imagine another movie coming up soon. But then, the Disney and 20th Century Fox merger sounded absurd mainly because this R-rated film didn’t seem to fit in with Disney’s happy-go-lucky image. However, Deadpool is so difficult to kill that even the Disney/Fox merger couldn't finish him off. The greatest motion picture studio acquisition of the 21st century had brought up issues about the eventual fate of the Merc with a Mouth; since there were murmurs that Deadpool wouldn't fit the House of Mouse's family-accommodating picture.

Fortunately, Mickey Mouse doesn’t hate swearing and brutal violence. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed during earnings call on February 5, 2019, that the studio has big plans for Deadpool.

What next?

While a threequel to the action comedy franchise has been underway since December 2016, star and co-writer Ryan Reynolds, as of late, suggested that there probably won't be legs for another Deadpool solo project. “I don’t know that there would be a Deadpool 3. I really don’t,” said Reynolds. “I feel like the character, in order for him to function properly within his own universe, you need to take everything away from him. I don’t think that you can keep doing that.”

While this could be confusing, it's anything but difficult to see Reynolds' point – it would be hard for a sequel to top the end of Deadpool 2. So, maybe the solo Deadpool movie days are numbered.

What to expect from Deadpool 3, if there will be one?

Deadpool 2 put in considerable efforts to set up X-Force, a group of heroes with fiercer ethos than the X-Men, who are set to get their own motion picture sooner or later in the coming years.

Meanwhile, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been arranging DEADPOOL 3, which would proceed with Wade's story separate from X-FORCE.
